21 Five Ultimate Guides For New Hires

As a newbie in a particular situation, it’s easy to feel left out. According to an article in Forbes, the very first step we need to do is to build our existence inside the new circle. Here are some of the ways to give a good impression to the team:

working

Be Available and Serve

Before you can help others, you need to research the person who has come before you and the company’s culture. After that, you must be available and ready to do and handle any kind of responsibilities.

Your first step determines your success, so get ready to serve. Serving others isn’t the same as letting others treat you as they please. It’s about adding value to what you do and doing everything seriously.

Be Reliable

I know it sounds tough to do your first task perfectly without asking for some help. But when you have proven your reliability to do the job or simply do things according to culture. Your teammates will be open to you and will trust you more.

As a newcomer, you might not have a strict rule to follow or an unimaginable target, but you will spark your charm when you prove to your teammates that you are good at what you are doing.

Be Active in Reaching Out

For introverts, I know it’s not easy to ask for help when you don’t know something. Because you might feel you are becoming a burden to others. But, as we live in a more suitable world for extroverts, we need to be a bit more active in building relationships with new people.

So, aligning with being proactive, we can focus more on what we receive with our senses. When we get new information, don’t depend on your memory to absorb all the information. Write it down, in case you forget. After that, when you have questions, write as many as possible so you can ask your questions when you believe you have the chance. Only then you can improve your impact by transforming what you receive into making the best practice and impact.

Expand your circle

Your circle at work is not just a one-time relationship. As newbies, we have many things to absorb, learn, explore, and listen to.
And each of that correlate with the other. When we listen, we can learn. When we learn, we absorb things. When we absorb, we know what other things we need to explore.

That’s why I put “listening” as the first step. When you learn and put effort into listening, you will somehow contribute to the company’s growth.

Show your excitement for learning and accepting new things

As an intern in the company I’ve worked for, to be honest, I found it was not easy to handle my first day. After socializing with my new circle, I felt exhausted despite not doing many tasks. I felt uneasy when I needed to team up with one colleague on one side. “What if my questions and curiosity disturb her workflow?” That kind of mindset kept lingering for a while.

Luckily, I soon realize I don’t know how many days I can still work there, as I’m still undergoing an internship program. So, I put aside my introversion a little, and when I have questions, I ask her when she has time.

You don’t have to be loud or show your giggly side to show your enthusiasm to learn new things. Each person has their way to learn and accept things. Your existence will be acknowledged if you still have the desire to learn continuously.

Good luck to all new hires out there! The first week is your first challenge to bring out a new side of you and to expand your comfort zone. Thanks for reading till the end.
